Professional liability insurance: German lawyers and German patent attorneys are all required to take out professional liability insurance according to the provisions of the German Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO) and the German Patent Attorney Act (PAO), respectively. Avoiding conflicts of interests: Professional regulations (Sec.43a (4) German Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO)) prohibit German lawyers from representing if there is a conflict of interest. This is why we always check whether a conflict of interests exists before we accept an engagement.
